Firefox Smart Keywords
Firefox Smart Keywords is yet another awesome feature built into Firefox. FF Smart Keywords lets you automatically use the search engine of any website from your address bar, using your defined keyword followed by your search query.
Let me give you a scenario. I use YouTube a lot. Instead of going to YouTube.com, then going to the search field to run my query…I could just run a YouTube query search from my address bar using my keyword for YouTube.
Here is how it works:
- Go to the website you want to create a Smart Keyword for
- Locate the search field on that website
- Right-click on the search field, and click “Add a Keyword for this Search…”
- The “Add Bookmark” dialog will show up. Enter a name for the bookmark
- In the “Keyword” field, enter the Keyword you would like to use to reference the site. In my YouTube example, I used “yt”
- Click “Ok” to save

holly crap… how come I never seen or heard of this nice feature anywhere else? Not even in the list of one of the major updates or features when Firefox 2.0 came out. Or did I miss it somehow!!! It’s a great feature. Thanks for posting wale.

I know, very shocking. It’s amazing so many built-in features Firefox has that most people do not even know about. I was shocked that I never knew about this or even read about it anywhere. Amazing what you learn everyday!
