The Venice Project

Yay, I got my private beta invite today for testing out the Venice Project. For those who don’t know, the Venice Project is a new startup by Skype founder Niklas Zennstrom and Kazaa founder Janus Friis. As you know, Skype rocked the phone industry and Kazaa rocked the music industry. The plan is for the Venice project to change the way we watch television. With high profile guys such as these two in the picture, I’m sure a lot of people will be watching out for the outcome.

Now back to my story, I got my invite, logged in and downloaded the software. It was only about 10 megs which is decent enough. After install, I tried to run the program with no luck. During install the program notified me that I was 8 MB RAM short and 16 MB video memory short. So that could be why the program is having trouble running. I get a Windows security alert that some of the program features are being blocked, but when I try to unblock, I can’t click anything, my system freezes. I had to kill the process every time.

ironically, I was planning to buy a new machine soon. So looks like I will probably wait till I buy my new laptop sometime in the coming weeks, to see if it makes a difference. I might also try checking TVP support areas just incase. Other than that, no much to blog about till I get it running.

I know the feeling. I was waiting so long for the invite wondering when in the world they would send it over. I’m not sure how they pick and choose, but seems like they will get through people slowly.
