I am Legend messed with my mind

Sunday, December 16th, 2007

So, I went to go see “I am Legend” on Friday. Frankly, I wasn’t too keen on going to see it, but did anyway. Based on the previews, I was quite worried Will Smith was the only person in the entire movie. It got me thinking what in the world would he talk about. I mean, he is funny and a good actor, but being the only person in the entire film would be odd.

So, the movie begins. Let’s just say this movie seems like one big product placement film at times. Opening seen begins with Will in a “Shelby GT Mustang” made by Ford. Later in the movie, Will’s SUV is also…you guessed it, a Ford! Oh, “the survivor chick” was also driving a not hard to miss Ford! With the cameras emphasizing that big blue oval logo, you sure won’t miss it. Moving on, Will plays with his iPod by “Apple”. Oh wait, Will’s lab is filled with Apple goodies….awesome. Lest I forget, I sure didn’t miss those billboard signs with the Batman and Superman logos. I’m sure it’s no coincidence that there is a new release of Batman coming to theater’s soon, which was also one of the previews shown before the movie started. I know there is product placement in literally every movie, but this one is just too obvious due to the fact that…well…there aren’t really that many people in the film, so there is not much to distract your eyes and mind.

So, I digress, now the actual film. Without giving much away, let’s just say the movie was just weird at times. It just messes with your mind. It is hard to explain, you just have to see it really. The ending was probably the most bizzare. The ending just left you with a feelin’ of - that’s it folks, get out of the hell out of the theater. Myself and 3 other friends had a blank stare on our faces at the end, like WTF.

So, what can I say……weird movie, now I need to go see “Hitman”!

How to get Oracle Apps running on your Windows Vista Machine

Saturday, December 15th, 2007

Everytime I try to launch Oracle Apps on my new laptop running Vista, my browser just hangs and then crashes. I could not figure out what the problem was and there was no way I would downgrade back to XP. As usual, I did some googling to find others who might have the same issue and possibly a solution. Lo and behold I did, right in the Oracle Forum actually.

So here are the steps to get Oracle Apps running on your Vista PC:

  1. Install the latest Java Runtime Environment, which was Java 6 Update 3 when i did this: http://java.sun.com/javase/downloads/index.jsp
  2. After the JRE installation, go to the directory: C:\Program Files\Java\jre1.6.0_02\bin\client
  3. Copy this file: jvm.dll to the directory “C:\Program Files\Oracle\Jinitiator\bin\hotspot”, where is your version of JInitiator.
  4. Remember to always backup before performing the above steps.

Now you should have Apps properly running on Vista
