Function Designs goes Live!

Tuesday, November 28th, 2006

Function Designs, the website that the Color Coded team put together for artist Nicole Alves has finally gone live. This has been an interesting project, albeit one of our best and fun projects too. The site had a couple of overhauls back and forth, but I think this is it for now.

From the initial concept, we went back to the drawing boards again and again in order to come up with a good and functional layout. I really have to give it to Nicole for her creative input and focus as a client.

Coding wise, we really implemented a few neat tricks. The picture galleries are all custom built and gets put together on-the-fly, as the page loads. We had to even modify the AJAX lightbox a bit due to an issue with the custom gallery. After building the gallery we noticed that lightbox did not load any images. Here is why: lightbox reads images before the page loads. Since our gallery gets built on-the-fly using innerHTML, lightbox bypasses the images. Thanks to the skilled Pman, he looked through the lightbox code and found out that we need to call a lightbox function again in our code after the gallery gets written. There are still some final tweaks and updates to be made to the site, but right now…it is functional.

Anyway, it was a really good experience for the team. This is technically our first official fully completed project. We look forward to more projects in the future.
